What conditions can Acupuncture be used to treat?

Acupuncture treats the ‘whole’ person rather than just the symptoms and patients can often find that a number of ailments benefit, not just the main complaint.

The holistic approach also means that I will take time to talk and diagnose your condition, which also gives you the opportunity to discuss anything that might be worrying you, whether you think it is related to your condition or not.

Facial Rejuvenation

Facial Rejuvenation Acupuncture (FRA), otherwise known as cosmetic acupuncture, is a wonderful, effective and relaxing alternative to botox, and invasive cosmetic procedures.

More, and more people are trying this technique to help them maintain and regain there radiant and youthful appearance, naturally. Celebrities such as Madonna, Cher and Gwyneth Paltrow are all fans of this technique.

So how does it work? Well, very fine needles are inserted gently into specific points on the face to promote good blood flow to the area and increase the production of collagen and elastin in the skin to smooth out lines and revitalise the complexion, and the effects don't stop there! .....

....Julia, your acupuncturist, will also place needles in other areas of the body, for example the hands and feet, to treat any underlying imbalances and thereby promoting good health and well-being. Afterall, real beauty comes from within!

Apart from the acupuncture, a Facial Gua Sha treatment (oriental massage) is also used on alternate sessions... these also have a wonderful effect on the facial contours, fantastically detoxifying, and feels absolutely gorgeous!

For those of you who would prefer a 'needle-free' course of facial rejuvenation then the Gua Sha can be used at all sessions instead of acupuncture.

Julia will also give advice on lifestyle, diet and self-maintenance techniques as part of the rejuvenation programme to keep you feeling and looking in tip-top condition in between your treatments.

Depending on the desired effect, a course of 6-12 treatments on a weekly basis is recommended to gain the most from the programme. Maintenance treatments every 1-2 months may be advised thereafter to prolong the effects.

What should I expect?

On your first treatment a detailed consultation will be carried out. This will include questions about your main complaint as well as any other ailments you might be experiencing.

To get an overall picture of your health and to identify the patterns of disharmony, I will also ask questions on your medical history, your digestive system, sleeping patterns and energy levels as well as any lifestyle habits you may have.

Diagnosis will also be made looking at the colour and shape of your tongue as well as taking your pulse to find out its strength, rhythm, speed and quality.

Prior to your treatment you should:

  • Avoid alcohol.
  • Make sure you have eaten, but aren’t too full.
  • Ensure you are not too over-tired.
  • Avoid any drinks or food which may discolour the tongue.
  • Avoid wearing too much make-up.

Confidentiality

Your patient confidentiality is assured. I will only contact your GP about your treatment with your consent.
